One of those can't-miss polymaths whose native talent and dedication elevate all he does to an expert level, Nunally has mastered such diverse skills as welding, home repair, sound-engineering, guitar picking and singing. But that's not all he's best at: to put a frame on it, he served as best man at the weddings of both Spatz and Ickes. A privilege and a personal honor, to be sure, but a glance at this Jaybird's resume will show, these two pals aren't the only ones who've come to the conclusion that Nunally's the best.
With awards for his fleet-fingered fretwork, a Grammy nod for his appearance (with John Reischman) on the Bill Monroe tribute album “True Life Blues,” and contributions to a slew of IBMA-honored albums, Nunally has received his share of superlative praise. He always has several projects on the go, including—but not exclusive to—collaborations with Dix Bruce, Keith Little, and David Grisman.
Nunally's band mates credit him as their “rhythm czar,” and his bluegrass-style song-writing, lead and back-up singing, sound engineering, and fast tour-van driving abilities are unparalleled amongst all Jaybirds. He might even win honors for best-dressed Jaybird, always boasting the most stylish cowboy boots to be seen this side of the Mississippi.
